The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, UAP, organizes a study tour at Karnafuli Hydro Electric Power Station in Kaptai, Submarine Cable Landing Station, and 230/132 KV Grid Substation under PGCB in Cox’s Bazar

The department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), UAP arranged a 4-day study tour from February 11 to 14, 2024, for the final-year students (7th & 8th semesters) of Fall 2023 as a part of their co-curricular program.

A total of 42 students participated in this tour under the supervision of three faculty members: Dr. M. Mahbubur Rahman, Dr. Md. Moshiur Rahman, and Ms. Tahia Fahrin Karim. During the tour, students visited Karnafuli Hydro Electric Power Station in Kaptai, Submarine Cable Landing Station in Cox’s Bazar, and 230/132KV 230/132 KV grid substation under PGCB in Cox’s Bazar. This was mostly an academic visit so as to enhance the theoretical and practical knowledge of the students.

The department of EEE organized this study tour to give extended field exposures to the students regarding power generation plants, substation maintenance, switchgear equipment, high-voltage transmission, and the optical fiber communication system of Bangladesh. On February 11, 2024, they visited Karnafuli Hydroelectric Power Station, where they observed the dam, spillway, power house, generator, control unit, and other operating machines under the guidance of three engineers. On February 13, 2024, the students and faculty members visited Cox’s Bazar Submarine Landing Station, where a senior officer of the station conducted an informative presentation about their landing station, optical fiber communication system, and functions of BSCCL, followed by a physical visit to the control room of the station. On the same day, students visited the 230/132KV grid sub-station in Cox’s Bazar, where one assistant engineer and one sub-assistant engineer guided them to visit different parts of the sub-station and briefed them about different components of the sub-station. Students enjoyed the overall study tour and highly benefited from these visits.
