On September 11, 2024, the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Asia Pacific hosted an insightful seminar titled “The Process and Importance of Taking Research from Bench to Bedside.” This event focused on the essential journey of translating scientific research into practical medical treatments.
We were honored to have Dr. Khondaker Miraz Rahman, Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences, King’s College London, and a member of the International Advisory Council (IAC) of the University of Asia Pacific, as the guest speaker. Dr. Rahman shared his extensive expertise in computational chemistry, synthetic medicinal chemistry, and chemical biology, particularly his work on developing novel drug-like compounds for anticancer and anti-infective treatments.
The seminar was graced by the presence of several esteemed attendees, including Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Dean of the School of Medicine; Prof. Dr. Irin Dewan, Head of the Department of Pharmacy; Prof. Dr. Swarnali Islam Khandaker; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ashraful Islam; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shahriar; and Prof. Dr. Zebun Nahar. We were also privileged to have the honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. Prof. Qumrul Ahsan, and the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Architect Mahbuba Haque, in attendance. Beloved students and faculties from the Department of Pharmacy were also present, showing great enthusiasm throughout the event.
The program was hosted by Ms. Ramisa Anjum and Ms. Nasiba Binte Bahar, adding grace and professionalism to the proceedings.
Dr. Rahman’s presentation highlighted the critical role research plays in advancing healthcare and provided valuable insights into the process of moving research from the laboratory (bench) to clinical application (bedside). An engaging Q&A session followed, where students and faculty had the opportunity to discuss the topic in depth.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks, recognizing the contributions of the guest speaker, the honorable attendees, the hosts, and the organizing committee, as well as the enthusiastic participation of students and faculty. This event marked another academic milestone for the Department of Pharmacy, fostering further curiosity and exploration in the field of medical research.
